  1. Turn off your HVAC system and slide out the current filter.
  2. Look for three printed numbers on the cardboard edge, such as 16 × 20 × 1.
  3. Enter them in that order: width, height, thickness. Use the printed nominal size rather than measuring the filter yourself.
